Every Spring/Summer when it starts to warm up, I add more decor to my art car. I live on a very high traffic bicycle/pedestrian thoroughfare and every single time I receive so many amazing comments and smiles! In fact today a woman walked past and said she and her son walk past my car every day on his way to school, and he often says she should do that to her car!
Another gentleman biked past and then stopped to let me know he's been biking past my car for four years on his way to PSU and said "you have the dopest Volvo I have ever seen...it's truly a work of art. Thank you!"

I would like to propose a little FUN experiment: For the next two weeks if you find a moment to go out into a public space and work on some of your amazing art, do so! and report back what sort of reception you received :)
Of course, you can always do this in a group setting, too!

This is my fourth summer of adding art car decor.  My art car artist extraordinaire friend, Clandon, recommended using a silicone for ease and speed.  So far, so good.  I will keep you posted throughout the summer!

I parked directly in front of her car the previous evening because I thought it would look awesome, and I think it does.  What do you think?

Hello!  I have finally started adding some more decor to my work-in-progress art car. 
My friend told me if you draw with the oil pens, then it is supposed to be permanent, unlike the Sharpie drawing I did two summers ago:

It's a finer tipped pen, so it doesn't show up that well in the pic.  I will have to get close ups the next time.
I have added a few more beads, too:

On Thursday I had a great urge to work on my car.  It was a beautiful fall day and looking at the forecast I knew this weather was short lived.  I decided that I needed to start bedazzling the trunk of the car to balance things out.  Here's the outcome so far:

It was the perfect weather.  It was sunny, but not too warm.  I have never affixed beads to my car without losing a pound in sweat, so that was quite delightful.

I was correct about the weather, however.  Friday it started to rain and there have been all sorts of rain storm warnings since.  Literally the it's like a monsoon outside right now as I am typing this.

Looks like I can put this project to rest till the sun returns in 2014!

I am finally back at it.  Why the late start?  Well, I spent the first 6 weeks of summer in Spain and then I went on the sweet canoeing trip among other fun summertime events.  I borrowed a friend's canoe and my car hauled a canoe on the roof for the first time ever.  I didn't think it would be possible, but here's the proof (and a couple of extra photos of the canoeing fun).

So I washed the dust off my car this Sunday and today was the day to get started on my second summer of decorating.  As you might be able to tell from the canoe photo, the sun has seriously bleached out the color of the beads and the words on the side are pretty much gone.  I do like the rusted antique look of the beads, but I haven't quite decided if I will add words again with a more permanent pen or maybe just add beads.

I got lots of compliments while I was affixing beads.  To be continued...

Well, since the rain is upon us, I think I will put the art car endeavor to rest until the sun comes out.  I have collected quite a number of mardi gras beads and I can't wait to add them to the hood, but it just can't be done unless I have two days of no rain, which may happen at some point this Autumn and winter.  I will keep you posted.

Art Car Part 3

Here's the latest in the art car progress.
I was driving up to my brother's a couple weekends ago and I had the idea that I would let my six-year-old nephew, Warren, draw some of his robots and monsters on the trunk of my car.  He's quite the little illustrator.
He was very excited about the idea.  Here are the action shots and results of his work.  I added a few things, too, because he likes the idea of drawing together.  We had a great time doing this together.

I decided to celebrate my freedom this 4th of July by adding more fun to my car.
I have come to the conclusion that I need to add the shiny mardi gras type beads to the hood of the car, so I added what few I have.  It will be a major work in progress as I slowly come across those beads, probably at SCRAP.  Who knows, maybe I will come across the mother load one of these days.

The other thing I added to my car was some leopard spots and words.  Yep, just random words that popped into my head.  My neighbors were having a bbq, so sometimes one of their words would filter over to my ears and I would then add it to the car.  I had a great time.  The leopard spots and words took about 4 hours, but I had nothing but time on the 4th of July.

Later, around 10, I met some friends on Mt. Tabor and checked out the fireworks.  It was a pretty sweet view.  You could see Portland's fireworks, just barely see Vancouver's fireworks, Sellwood's fireworks and then all the personal fireworks all going off around the same time.  I loved it.  I will have to remember that for next year.

Art Car Part Deux

Sorry for the snooze on my blog; however, I've been doing anything but snoozing lately, which is why there is such a gap between posts:)
I have a lot to share, but I will just start with the addition to the art car that I am going to continue to work on and create all summer.
I wanted to make a shrine like or mandalaish pattern on the hood.  One sunny day a month or so ago I ran to the car wash, came home and quickly added some sparkly vinyl and this wooden star pattern as the centerpiece that I had found in a free box about a year or so ago.
I had some vinyl leftover that I had cut out for the mandala so I added it like a border to the top.
This latest addition will hopefully keep things rolling and inspire me to work on it more this summer.  Don't worry, I have plenty of ideas and I will keep you posted with my progress.

The Beginnings of My Art Car

Last summer I desperately wanted to turn my car into an art car.  I have always dreamed of having one and have worked on a few ideas and cars in the past.  Well, I thought I had some great ideas, but working out the logistics of them ultimately stopped me from achieving my dream.
This year I am going to start simple and just see where the art and the car take me.  So to keep me motivated and get the whole ball rolling I decided that my car needed the addition of pom-pom fringe on the inside. I mean, what car doesn't?
