Brandon Alleman, the super talented plastic melter!

Pin It Now!

I just wanted to share a little bit about Brandon and his passion for plastic.  Last year? or two years ago he made me this super cool crochet like weave for an outfit to submit to Junk to Funk's trashion show.  I came up with the '60s go-go design, but he soldered it all together.
I made the black liner out of picnic tent mesh that was left for garbage on the side of the road.  I trimmed the edges of the liner with the zipper from that tent.  I also took the zipper pulls from the tent, which was a Columbia tent, and made earrings with those.  I completed the look with the go-go boot spats and the laces are from the same tent.

He soldered the plastic together with a soldering gun and a lot of patience and some good old Brandon methodology.  Pretty cool.
I love this dress and have worn it for a number of occasions.  Here I am, Halloween two years ago as the girl from Planet Claire, you know, the B-52's awesome song.  I think there is mention of red trees on Planet Claire.

I would also like to note that Brandon's latest interest has been fusing plastic bags.  So I do this as well and I make wallets, but he fused some bags together for me to sew some lunch bags.  Here are my first prototypes.  I don't think I will mass produce them, but they are pretty cool.

One of Brandon's favorite projects over the winter were creating shrinky dinks out of number 6 plastic to-go containers.  He has a wonderful collection of sun catchers out of his own illustrations.  I love the colors.

I also love the photo he took of these sun catchers.  You can check out more of his photography on his website -

- it documents his work over the past 10 years at various national parks.  There are some amazing photos.
So there you have it, the very talented Mr. Brandon Alleman.
